1. "Being" - detail. 18 components. Live grass, recycled wood, soil, fabric, wire.
For most of my artistic practice I have taken nature as a foremost inspiration. Though I fully embrace the history of landscape art, our time deserves a different approach to nature than the past. Much as how the Romantics shifted our perceptions in their time. Instead of using depictions of it, I bring actual nature into my installations (live grass, plants, seeds, swamp water, soil, etc.). My new installations are also informed by our planet's need for better stewardship. I have worked with this issue extensively in past shows. As with them, I do not make anything that fits into a rectangular format. Practically everything else we endure in our daily lives revolves around rectangles. I believe that art has the potential to be the resistance to this. Taken together, these concepts and practices are what give my art it's look. I hope that this body of work will be part of the larger dialogue, though it is not in my nature or that of the art to be overly didactic or preachy.
It is important to know that the images I am submitting are only details of each installation. There are many more of the same components to each one.

"Installations For a Hurting Planet"
It is important to know that the images I am submitting are only details of each installation. There are many more of the same components to each one. For my show, I will exhibit up to 9 new installations (plus some smaller works as we determine). With the new work I again take my inspiration from nature and the environment. This means that there are many natural elements included in each piece- sand, moss, seeds, swamp water, and a lot of live grass. I have worked with all of these in past exhibitions. While the show takes environmentalism as it's focus, it will not be forceful. I prefer dialogue over dictates. This being the case, I will be more than happy to make myself available for any talks or lectures. I have extensive experience here from my years as a college professor (adjunct). This show will take about 4 days to install and I can do it myself, though I would enjoy and appreciate any help. I will also transport, install, deinstall the art and patch all holes in the walls as well. I do not need any money for my show, though if there is any available for a hotel I would be grateful.
